Next, the filter is placed on a turntable and water fills up the inside.  A burst of air from the center of the table forces the water out the filter along with some of the surface dirt.

This water flush is done one to three times during the process depending upon the size of the filter.  In addition to removing some of the heavy contaminant load, this stage of supersaturates the paper media and emulsifies the dirt that is trapped in the pore voids of the media.
