All filter manufacturers at one time or another have approved of cleaning their filters.  They issue literature and product labels stating this.

Cost versus competitiveness compels manufacturers to shy away from the obvious benefits of recycling their products.

If their filters were cleanable in the past, it stands to reason that these same filters are presently cleanable and will be in the future!
